Shade Tree Wisdom 3/31/2017 Another of Isaiah’s prophetic writings looms large during these days. “For He was wounded for Our transgressions; He Was crushed for our Iniquities; upon Him was The chastisement that brought Us peace, and with His stripes We are healed.” Isaiah 53,5. Shade Tree Wisdom 3/30/2017 During these days of lent it good to recall what Isaiah prophesied. “He was despised and rejected By men; a man of sorrows, And acquainted with grief; And as one from whom Men hide their faces He Was despised, and we Esteemed Him not.” Isaiah 53,3 As I said, good to remember these words. Shade Tree Wisdom 3/28/2017 In his letter to the Colossians Paul is describing creation. “For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions, rulers or authorities, all things were created through Him and for Him.” Colossians 1,16 Paul is writing to new Christians to keep them from falling into error. Shade Tree Wisdom 3/27/2017 God’s wish for His people is given us, among many others, by the prophet Micah when he said. “He has told you, O man, What is good; and what does The Lord require of you but To do justice, and to love Kindness, and to walk Humbly with your God.” Micah 6,8 That is not always easy to do, is it? Shade Tree Wisdom 3/22/2017 King David offers this good word. “It is good to give thanks To the Lord, to sing praises To Your name, O Most High.” Psalm 92,1 The psalm echoes the advice St. Paul gives us. “In everything give thanks.” GPD 3/23/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 3/20/2017 When he speaks of sin, St. Peter writes, “He Himself bore our sins In His body on the tree, That we might die to sin and live To righteousness. By His Wounds you have been healed.” 1 Peter 2,24. So our sins are paid I full, gone and forgotten. GPD 3/20/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 3/19/2017 In a debate about being ma true Christian, Dr. Luther said “Baptismus sum”, I am baptized, and that is what St. Peter tells too, “Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ who has gone into heaven” 1 Peter 3.21. Shade Tree Wisdom 3/17/2017 Paul gives this advice. “Beloved, never avenge Yourself, but leave it to The wrath of God, for it Is written, vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” Romans 12,19 Today is St. Patrick’s day. Born in Ireland, was captured by pirates, he escaped, studied theology, and returned to Ireland to establish 300 churches according to tradition. A real putting Paul’s advice to work. GPD 3/17/17

In my youth now and then our Pastor would have the entire congregation recite it as part of the service. It begins “I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker Of heaven and earth. Shade Tree Wisdom 3/7/2017 As we work out our taxes for the year, Moses warns us. “Beware lest you say in your Heart, my power and the Might of my hand have gotten Me this wealth. You shall Remember the Lord, your God, For it He Who gives you the Power to get wealth.” Deuteronomy 8, 12.13 God create us and gave us the “smarts” to fill out the forms. So Be thankful. GPD 3/7/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 3/1/2017 Today is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, during which we think of what our Lord Jesus said. “No one takes it from Me, But I lay it down Of my own accord. John 10, 18. St. Paul tells us “While we were weak, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly.” Romans 5,7. And that death engages our attention during these days of Lent. GPD 3/1/17
