Shade Tree Wisdom 3/29/15

Family notes for 3/28/15
This comes late. Monday Rhoda took me for a checkup and she found things cleared up, She did want to take a small sample and I said no because the last time she took a sample I bled for a day. It kept on running into my eye till the nurse put an extra large bandage on it.
On the 24th Conner turned one. He has a little party today.
Yesterday Rhoda took me to the bank to finish changing names on a Vanguard Fund. I believe that does it. She also treated me to lunch including an ice cream treat which I did not eat. Too sweet.
One of the servers stopped in and wanted to know why her husband  died at age 52. We talked about that a while and I told her I did not know except that God always works what is best for us. She told me she lives down the block from Trinity.
I see that a pastor has accepted  the call to Zion of Tomball, Pastor Franzmeier has been serving all this time as vacancy pastor. He must be thankful to be relieved of that task.
In one of the Clive Cussler books two men grab a briefcase from our hero and make off with it. His wife wonders why he doesn’t seem bothered. He had sort of expected it so when they opened their stolen case it snapped wide and squirted them  with in the face with blue ink.
It will be sunny and warm here today and the weatherman said “the summer looms”.
May God bless your day and give you His blessing.
Love,
Dad (That lovable old curmudgeon)

Shade Tree Wisdom 7/13/15

Shade Tree Wisdom 7/13/15
Scripture is very clear on one thing, that “The soul that sinneth it shall die.”
Indeed, St. Paul  writes to the Romans,
“For the wages of sin
Is death, But the free gift of God
Is eternal life  in
Christ Jesus, our Lord.”
Romans 6,23
It is clear death comes to all of us. This is expressed poetically thus:
“And then one day I’ll cross the river,
I’ll fight life’s final war with pain.
And then as death gives way to victory,
I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know He lives.
Because he lives I can face tomorrow
Because He lives all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living just because He lives.”
This is so well summarized I thought I’d pass it along. I hope you find comfort and strength to go on because “life is worth the living”.

Shade Tree Wisdom 6/10/16

Shade Tree Wisdom 6/10/2016 This is an eternal truth, so reassuring and always comforting in our lives, and we are grateful to almighty God for His blessing. “Heaven and earth Will pass away, But my words will Not pass away.” Matthew 24,33 Just think for a moment, we can trust the Word of Christ, for He always speaks truthfully. How nice it is that there is one word that never changes. GPD 6/10/16

Shade Tree Wisdom 3/10/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 3/10/2017 Let this be among our Lenten prayers. “Fear not I am with you, O be not dismayed, For I am your God and will still give you aid; I’ll strengthen you, help you, and cause you to stand, Upheld by My righteous, omnipotent hand.” LSB 728,2 GPD 3/10/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 4/6/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 4/6/2017 A good plan for living. “If we live by the Spirit, Let us also walk by the Spirit. Let us not be conceited, Provoking one another, Envying one another.” Galatians 5, 25.26 Paul here in his letter to the church at Galatia gives them guidelines for their living. Sound good to me, does it to you? GPD 4/6/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 4/5/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 4/5/2017 This is the Lord’s promise to believers. “The way of the Lord is A stronghold to the blameless, But destruction to evildoers. The righteous will never be Removed, but the wicked Will not dwell in the land.” Proverbs 10, 29.30 Here speaks the wise king Solomon who ruled many years revered for his wisdom. GPD 4/5/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 4/4/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 4/4/2017 This is the only way for the Christian. “What good is it, my brothers, If someone says he has faith But does not have works, can that faith save him? . . . faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. James 2,,14.17 A living and active faith always sees a need and works to fill it. GPD 4/4/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 4/30/27

Shade Tree Wisdom 4/3/2017 Here is good news indeed. “The Lord works righteousness And justice for all who Are oppressed. . . the Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.” Psalm 103.6.8. Christians too often count on that “slow to anger” in our daily living. GPD 4/3/17

Shade tree wisdom 3/30/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 3/31/2017 Another of Isaiah’s prophetic writings looms large during these days. “For He was wounded for Our transgressions; He Was crushed for our Iniquities; upon Him was The chastisement that brought Us peace, and with His stripes We are healed.” Isaiah 53,5. Many years before it happened God allowed the prophet to see it. GPD 3/30/17

Shade tree wisdom 3/30/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 3/30/2017 During these days of lent it good to recall what Isaiah prophesied. “He was despised and rejected By men; a man of sorrows, And acquainted with grief; And as one from whom Men hide their faces He Was despised, and we Esteemed Him not.” Isaiah 53,3 As I said, good to remember these words. Shade Tree Wisdom 3/28/2017 In his letter to the Colossians Paul is describing creation. “For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions, rulers or authorities, all things were created through Him and for Him.” Colossians 1,16 Paul is writing to new Christians to keep them from falling into error. Shade tree wisdom 3/27/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 3/27/2017 God’s wish for His people is given us, among many others, by the prophet Micah when he said. “He has told you, O man, What is good; and what does The Lord require of you but To do justice, and to love Kindness, and to walk Humbly with your God.” Micah 6,8 That is not always easy to do, is it? For we humans are a proud people. GPD 3/27/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 3/22/2017 King David offers this good word. “It is good to give thanks To the Lord, to sing praises To Your name, O Most High.” Psalm 92,1 The psalm echoes the advice St. Paul gives us. “In everything give thanks.” GPD 3/23/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 3/20/2017 When he speaks of sin, St. Peter writes, “He Himself bore our sins In His body on the tree, That we might die to sin and live To righteousness. By His Wounds you have been healed.” 1 Peter 2,24. So our sins are paid I full, gone and forgotten. GPD 3/20/17

sHADE TREE WISDOM 3/19/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 3/19/2017 The Bible truly is the very word of God. St. Peter assures us. “For no prophecy was ever Produced by the will of Man, but men spoke from God As they were carried along By the Spirit.” 2 Peter, 1,21 Gpd 3/19/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 3/19/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 3/19/2017 In a debate about being ma true Christian, Dr. Luther said “Baptismus sum”, I am baptized, and that is what St. Peter tells too, “Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ who has gone into heaven” 1 Peter 3.21. Shade Tree Wisdom 3/17/2017 Paul gives this advice. “Beloved, never avenge Yourself, but leave it to The wrath of God, for it Is written, vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” Romans 12,19 Today is St. Patrick’s day. Born in Ireland, was captured by pirates, he escaped, studied theology, and returned to Ireland to establish 300 churches according to tradition. A real putting Paul’s advice to work. GPD 3/17/17

Shade tree Wisdom 3/14/2017 The cost was high. “Knowing that you were Ransomed from the futile Ways inherited from your Forefathers, not with perishable Things such as silver and gold, But with the precious blood Of Christ, like that of a lamb, Without blemish or spot.” 1 Peter 1, 18.19. Shade Tree Wisdom 2/25/2017 Just because we are sinful we need to be assured again that “I am the one who helps you”, as Isaiah tells us here. “For I, the Lord your God, Hold your right hand; It is I Who say to you, “fear not, I am the One Who helps you.” Isaiah 41,13 The Bible in many places when God speaks starts with “fear not”. Shade Tree Wisdom 2/21/2017 Understand this truth and stop worrying about things you’ve done, because what Jeremiah says is so true. “The heart is deceitful Above all things, and Desperately sick, who Can understand it? Shade Tree Wisdom 2/17/2017 In the small catechism under the 8th commandment Luther speaks of our neighbor and how we treat them when he says “and put the best construction on everything.” “Therefore, having put away Falsehood, let each one of you Speak the truth with his Neighbor, for we are members Of one another.” Ephesians 4,25 Our sinful nature is always inclined to jump to the wrong conclusion when we notice some act or other. Shade Tree Wisdom 2/13/2017 This was the voice which Paul heard to begin his ministry. SHADE TREE WISDOM 2/11/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 2/11/2017 The Psalmist has been struggling, and he has reach this conclusion. “For it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord my refuge, That I may tell of all His works.” Psalm 73,28. SHADE TREE WISDOM 2/10/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 2/10/2017 So, our God is always there. The Old Testament prophet, Habakkuk says: “For still the vision awaits Its appointed time; it hastens To the end – it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; It will surely come; It will not delay.” Habakkuk 2,3. Shade tree wisdom 2/9/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 2/9/2017 Our lives for the most part are very busy. Do this, join that, let us go here, or we must attend that. Always on the move. So Jesus said to His disciples: “Come away by yourselves To a desolate place And rest a while.” Mark 6,31 Do you do that? Maybe go to your room alone simply to pray, read the Scripture, or just nap ? Jesus suggested that sort of thing for His disciples, and He said “desolate place”. Which really means getting away, really getting away. Try it. GPD 2/9/17

SHADE TREE WISDOM 2/7/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 2/7/2017 This is most important for any preacher. “For I decided to know Nothing among you Except Jesus Christ, And Him crucified.” 1 Corinthians 2,3 This Gospel would be a wonderful sermon when one begins a pastorate. Shade tree wisdom 2/6/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 2/6/2017 Some bad things happen to us because God loves us and means to strengthen our faith. The writer to Hebrews writes: “For the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and chastises every son whom He receives.” Hebrews 12,6 That should explain everything that goes on in our lives, either good or bad. God has our good in mind, always. GPD 2/6/17

SHADE TREE WISDOM 2/5/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 2/5/2017 St. Mark seems to be in a hurry to tell the Salvation story when he writes. “The time is fulfilled, And the kingdom of God Is at hand, repent and Believe in the Gospel,” Mark 1,15 Getting the Gospel into the world is our job and God invites us to be busy with it. Afraid you will be ignored, pitied, get people angry or upset. God can and will support us. GPD 2/5/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 2/1/2017 Like St. Paul, we too can be sure. He said, “For I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have Believed, and am convinced That He is able to guard until That day what has been Entrusted to me.” 2 Timothy 1,7. Paul taught, “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” This is the message he was not ashamed of, for it is sure. GPD 2/1/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 1/31/2017 The apostle Peter wants his message of the saving Gospel to be remembered. Shade Tree Wisdom 1/29/2017 How true this is. “The way of the fool is Right I his own eyes, But the wise man Listens to advice” Proverbs 12,15 He advice may be wrong for one this time, but the wise man will ,at least listen before he takes action. That is being wise. GPD 1/29/17

Shade tree wisdom 1/24/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 1/24/2017 The apostle Paul declares that he remains a sinner, though he is a saint who is forgiven. “The saying is trustworthy And deserving of full Acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world To save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.” 1Timothy 1,15. This explains the phrase we so often hear, “saint and sinner”. GPD 1/24/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 1/23/2017 How true, for there always seem to be those who sneer at everything and so cause unrest. So this proverb says what we’ve all experienced at times. “Drive out a scoffer, and Strife will go out, and Quarreling and abuse Will cease.” Proverbs 22,10 Better it is if we simply don’t pay attention to such people. Shade tree wisdom 1/20/17

Shade tree wisdom 1/19/17 Al-ways the best way to begin our day is with prayer. Here is Luther’s morning prayer “I thank you, my Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that you have Kept me this night from all Harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep this day also from Sin and every evil, that all my doings And life may please You. For into Your Hands I commend myself, my Body and soul and all things. Let Your holy Angel be with me, that the evil foe May have no power over me. Amen” Then go to work mwith a fine spirit. Shade tree wisdom 1/18/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 1/18/2017 So that is where light for our daily walk comes from. “For the commandment is A lamp, and the teaching a light, and the reproofs of Discipline are the Way of life.” Proverbs 6, 23. The words show us a way to teach; to use God’s Word as a fine guide for living. GPD 1/18/17

Shade tree wisdom 1/17/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 1/17/2017 We are surrounded by sinners for we all are, born so. Hence this bit of advice from King Solomon in his Proverbs is excellent for our daily use. “My son, if sinners entice you, Do not consent.” Proverbs 1,1 It’s all too easy to fall into a habit without being aware of the damage brought thereby. Shade tree wisdom 1/16 17

Shade Tree Wisdom 1/16/2017 This tells us where it all comes from. All God’s creation depends on His providing. “The eyes of all look to You, And You give them their Food in due season, You open Your hand; And satisfy the desire of Every living thing.” Psalm 145, 15.16 These verses are often used as a table prayer to start a common meal. Shade tree wisdom 1/15/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 1/15/2017 God loves us and always forgives the repentant sinner as Isaiah tells us. “Come now, and let us reason Together, says the Lord; Though your sins are like Scarlet, they shall be ass White as snow; though they are Red like crimson, they Shall be as wool. Isaiah 1,18 What a comforting promise this is. He never says, “Prove you mean it.” He simply forgives out of His love for Jesus’, sake. GPD 1/15/17

Shade tree wisdom 1/14/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 1/14/2017 How fine it is when we really do live together amicably as Psalm 133,1 tells us. “Behold, how good and pleasant It is when brothers dwell Together in unity.” Psalm 133,1. Maybe you too have seen neighbors fighting each other, or families quarreling and being discourteous. Tragic, that! GPD 1/14/17

Sade tree wisdom 1/13/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 1/13/2017 Here is another truth expressed by the hymn that we do well to remember along life’s journey in 2017 “Thy works, not mine, Christ, Speak gladness to this heart; They tell me all is done, They bid my fears depart. To whom save Thee, Who canst alone, for sin atone, Lord, shall flee?” TLB 565,1 So, may your life be richly blessed in 2017. GPD 1/13/17

Shade tree wisdom 1/12/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 1/12/2017 During this year let us not forget to rest in Him. The poet said. “Come unto Me ye weary, And I will give you rest” O blessed voice of Jesus, Which comes to hearts oppressed! It tells of benediction, Of pardon, grace, and peace, Of joy that hath no ending, Of m love that cannot cease.” TLH 684,1 GPD 1/12/17

Shade tree wisdom 1/11/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 1/10/2017 Here is a truth we ought always remember. Our salvation is a gift, “so that no one may boast.” “For by grace you have been Saved through faith. And that is not Not your own doing; it is The gift of God, not a result of works, So that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2,8.9 The Lord told the Israelites they were His people not because they were better, but because He loved them. So it still is – a GIFT OF GOD, always it is grace. GPD 1/110/17

Shade tree wisdom 1/9/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 1/9/2017 This is a truth to carry with us in our life’s journey. “The unfolding of your Words gives light, It imparts understanding To the simple. Psalm 119,130 God’s Word is a bright light in our sin-darkened world, a light we sorely need if we would walk God pleasingly in 2017. GPD 1/9/17

Shade tree wisdom 1/8/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 1/8/2017 Another bit of wisdom for our life’s journey. “Let brotherly love continue. Do not neglect to show Hospitality to strangers, For thereby some have Entertained angels unaware.” Hebrews 13,1 Really, it’s how we treat each mother that makes life pleasant. GPD 1/8/17

SHADE TREE WISDOM 1/7/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 1/7/2017 Here’s a bit of wisdom from the Scriptures we do well to use often during 2017. “For what was written in Former days was written For our instruction, that Through endurance and the Comfort of the Scriptures We might have hope.” Romans 15,4. Understand, the word of God speaks of our salvation, but it does much more it gives wise advice for any situation we may find ourselves in. GPD 1/7/17

Shade tree wisdom 1/4/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 1/4/2017 This is a wise thing to do. “I have set the Lord always Before me; because He is My right hand, I shall Not be shaken.” Psalm 16, 8 Surely, there can be no better resolution than that. Having God, the eternal God, as our constant guide. GPD 1/4/17

Shade tree wisdom 1/3/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 1/3/2017 Here’s a word we do well to remember as we wend our way into 2017. “For with You is the fountain Of life; in Your light do We see light.” Psalm 36,9. God gives us the light of salvation when Jesus died on the cross to pay for the sins we do daily, and so we see the light of Life, truly. GPD 1/3/17

Shade tree wisdom 1/1/17

Shade Tree Wisdom 1/1/2017 The hymn expresses my thoughts best. “The old year now has passed away; We thank thee, O our God, today That Thou hast kept us through the year When danger or distress were near.” May you have a blessed 2017. GPD 1/1/17
