A
reminder that there is a regularity in the earth we live in. Here is the Lord’s promise:
“The Lord said in His heart,
I will never again curse the ground because of
man,
For the intention of a man’s heart is
Evil from his youth. . .While the earth
Remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat,
Summer and winter, day and night
Shall not cease.” Genesis 8, 21b, 22.
So here spring is coming just as surely
as the sun rises each day. And that means, for bird watchers especially, that Purple Martins will soon be appearing in our area. So, if you host some flocks, prepare
the nesting places, scrub the old nests, disinfect, etc. They send out old males as scouts, and when they find a
place for a nest, the females follow and begin the work of building nests,
laying eggs, and raising young.
Sometimes the flock returns to the
sane nesting site, or they may move to some other spot. They do have the habit
of returning to the same neighborhood.
They devour
insects, but not mosquitoes, and ward off crows and vultures.
So spring is coming, bless the seeing
and enjoying God’s creation.
