Today we observe the birthday of George
Washington, the Commander in Chief who won the revolutionary war. When the war
was winding his officers had not been paid for months and were on the point
of mutiny when General Washington called
his officers to a meeting and assured they would be paid in full. He read them a letter from a congressman and had difficulty
in seeing the page, so he stopped, took his glasses and put them on and said:
“Gentlemen,
you will permit me to put on my spectacles for I have not only grown gray but blind
in the service of my country”.
He left his men in tears. The mutiny was over. The Country remains.
May God always bless our native land, firm may she
ever stand.”
